I’m happy to report, that my hundred mile cycling commitment has been accomplished. This last ride, although one of the shorter ones, was one of the most grueling. Seems like I’m coming down with something. I know that a viral bronchitis strain is running around the area so it could be that. This past month has had challenges, all in all it was good to get out there for a good cause. Not sure what the future holds, but I do plan to keep cycling. These last couple years of doing this challenge has gotten my head back into that space. Most likely I won’t do it as often as this past month, but I figure if I get out at least once a week for a few miles. That’s a good thing. For those of you who have been on the fence about donating, you have a couple days left. Either way, thank you all for your support by words thoughts, prayers and funds to the cause. With that I bid you all adieu.
Few. Then late morning ride today. Rode down to Kings ferry in Verplank. Longest ride yet at just under 17 miles. I’ve done yet in one shot. Lots of hills up and down. Very scenic route. In the bright sunlight, my eyes were taking a beating even with shades. Despite the potholes and curbs that I hit, I made it unscathed. Probably do one to two more rides to finish up my commitment of 100 miles total. All in all, it’s been a great month of riding.
Today was warm and muggy just after a rain storm and just before another one rolls in. But got out there and squeezed a couple miles in. Had some rough spots but made it through OK. Looking forward to the next ride.
So far so good. The weather‘s been cooperating and the ride have been coming easier. It is straight almost 5 miles today. Hills are becoming much less a challenge. Gonna look to do longer rides consistently. I situation is still the same, but I’m making do being very cautious. Will probably get a mirror.
This was my longest ride yet in one shot, just over 13 miles. Sweating like a runaway hog, but feeling well. Looking forward to the next two weeks of riding. This ride was along the Peekskill, New York waterfront. Most of it was sheltered with shade by the trees and the overgrown brush, so it was comfortable in the sun. Rolling Hills and twist and turns made it interesting. I would definitely do this one again.
Getting easier whatever ride. Trying to stay to the same route for now. The hills are not so hilly anymore. There are still a few that I end up walking up. But for the most part, I’m cruising through the rolling Hills. Getting used to being in traffic again. A lot more traffic than I remember, even for the daytime. Morning rides seem to work well though.
Today’s rides were easier. Made a mistake when saving my first ride. My vision within three foot radius is still healing. Had to input it manually. Took the same route as the last few days, so it’s easy to compare apples to apples. Stopped to take a photo off a bridge. Very picturesque. Looking forward to riding tomorrow if the weather permits.
So went out for a little bit longer ride today. Trying to take it easy and ease myself back into it. Get my butt cheeks in shape so I can handle the longer rides without so much residual pain afterwards. Gonna try and build up to 5 to 10 miles on average per day. The backup bike is holding up well. Just gotta do some more fine-tuning on the gears and the shifters. Tire held out. Seat wasn’t too bad given the short ride. Figure if I stick to midday hours traffic won’t be so bad on the busier roads. All in all feeling good about this challenge.
So gone on a bike and decided to do my first real ride today. Wasn’t looking to do anything crazy just maybe up to 5 miles. Basically to set the tone for 5 miles per day. got on the bike took a letter with me to throw in the mailbox and I headed out. What a beautiful day. Did about a mile and a half to the mailbox drop the mail and started doing some drills in the parking lot just to get familiar uncomfortable again. Started noticing my back tire fishtailing. As it turned out seemed I had developed a slow leak. Started heading back home. Got about a mile and the tire was too flat to ride. Had to walk back the last quarter mile. I’ll deal with the flat tomorrow morning and be at it again tomorrow afternoon. Maybe I’ll have better luck then.
So tested out the bike today. need to do some minor tuneung up, but otherwise got options. First test couldn’t get it started for the timer and map. Second ttest only got timer started, but I think I accidentally turned it off right before I started as I was putting the phone away. Third was a charm. Got the timer and maps started kept going during the ride. Just rode around the property a little. If i average no more than 5 miles a day. That’ll keep me on track to make my hundred miles plus at the end of the month. My vision isn’t the best, but good enough to get by at these speeds. Just have to be hypervigilant on my left side. Gonna try and get out every day we’ll see if the weather cooperates.
