Contrary to the doom & gloom weather that was forecasted for today, it was a pleasant day for the annual Covered Bridge Ride put on by the Central Bucks Bike Club. I was prepared, however, with my rain pants and rain jacket in my pannier just in case and was dressed warm enough for the 60F temps.
23.4 miles today along the D&L Trail from Tinicum Park in Erwinna PA, across the Delaware River on the Frenchtown bridge and down the D&R Canal Tow Path to Bulls Island and back. I could have gone another few miles to see a second covered bridge, but it meant getting off the trail and riding on a highway.
This is a very well run event with lots of signage, electronic route GPS maps, people posted at intersections, rest stops with food, drink & ports-potties and a hot lunch at the end when we got back to our starting point!
This ride brings my total mileage for the Great Cycle Challenge 2025 to 221 miles! Just 29 miles to go to hit my newest target of 250 miles!! :)
13.6 miles today on the Columbia Trail from High Bridge to just past Califon and back. Even though the skies were blue and the sun was out, it was only a chilly 60 degrees today. Only two days ago it was 80!!! We are supposed to get our first frost tonight!!! ANY WAY - I thought I was dressed warm enough, but I should have turned back and put on my warmer long sleeve jacket…but I figured I’d warm up as I rode, but I never really did warm up. The shady trail was quite cool so I didn’t go as far as I’d wanted to, but I’ll dress warmer for the next rides.
Hello friends & fellow cyclists! Absolutely gorgeous day for a ride today. 22.4 miles on the Paulinskill trail from Station rd to Stillwater rd and back in 2hrs, 20 minutes. Great Cycle Challenge is keeping our pages open until the end of October to continue collecting donations and for us to continue logging miles. I have exceeded both my $1000 donation goal and my 150 mile goal. And because I’ve hit $1000 now I am a member of the “Peloton” club. There are hundreds of people in the “club” and I’m just barely squeaked in, considering the top ranking fellow has brought in almost $100k in 2025!!! I’m looking forward to riding in the Central Bucks Covered Bridge ride on 10/12. Looks like it’ll be cooler, but still nice riding weather.
If you’ve been following my updates for this Great Cycle Challenge, I’m thrilled to let you know that I rode 12.7 miles today on the Paulinskill trail from Hainesburg to Columbia and then up to the Blairstown glider port and back which gives me a total of 161 miles this month. So I exceeded my goal of biking 150 miles in September. Very close to achieving my donation target of $1000, with only $24 to go.
26.1 miles on the Lehigh Gorge trail today. What a fabulous ride!! ONE mile left to complete my 150 mile goal!!! I’ll finish tomorrow with a ride on the Paulinskill or Columbia Trail
123 miles under the tires this month, only 27 more to go to reach my target of 150 miles. 15.4 miles today along my local trail portion of the Paulinskill. Unfortunately a shorter ride than I’d hoped due to trees down across the trail (which I reported).
Another 12.5 miles under the tires today, bringing my total for this month to 107 miles. 43 to go to make my target 150!!! Such a gorgeous day, so since I had an errand in Newton this morning, I figured I’d take the bike and try riding the Paulinskill Trail from the Warbasse Junction Trail entrance. Headed south, thinking I’d make a loop with the Great Valley Trail and Sussex Trail back to Warbasse, but the GV trail was just too rough and overgrown, so back tracked to the Paulinskil and continued south until the Swartswood Rd intersection and turned around at that point. Very pretty trail.
Tried a new trail today, 14.2 miles round trip. West Pen Argyl PA to Stokertown PA. Most of it paved and shaded. The mile at the Pen Argyl trail head was steep gravel. The paved part was a bit of a bone shaker but a gorgeous day.
Enjoyed a lovely 19 miles on the Paulinskill Trail today. 1:59:04 hrs Station Rd - Spring Valley Rd round trip. Completed 80 miles of the 150!!
Thank you to everyone who donated yesterday enabling me to surpass my target goal of $750. Combined with the 81% matching donation of $168.63, my total donation total so far this month is $950.37!!! WOW!!!
Why only 81% match you ask? Well the GCC riders raised $1.85M yesterday so since that exceeded the 1.5M of the matching donation, they decided to distribute the matching funds based on a percentage of what each rider raised. So 1.5M / 1.85M =0.811 So everyone had the funds raised yesterday matched 81.08%.
So thank you again and again.
